Wine-lovers and collectors will once again be given a rare chance to taste and buy older vintages of wines made on the farm. Our seventh Vintage Day will take place on Friday, 2 August where guests can taste a range of specially selected wines representing our finest vintages of the new millennium and a handful of gems from the 1990’s.
During the Vintage Day, visitors will have a rare opportunity to taste and purchase vintage Kaapse Vonkel MCC wines, as well as super vintages of our iconic Redhill Pinotage, which is the recipient of numerous Top 10 Pinotage Awards, as well as an array of local and international accolades. Other vintage wines that can be tasted include the Merindol Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Frans Malan Cape Blend.
A highlight will be a Masterclass themed Five Decades of Cabernet Sauvignon that will be presented by our Director of Winemaking Johan Malan and Cellar Master Debbie Thompson, where this noble grape will be discussed and illustrated through a sublime selection of wines for tasting.
According to Thompson Simonsig’s Vintage Day offers wine-lovers the chance to experience wines that had benefitted from maturation under optimum storage conditions to reach their optimum maturity.
“In today’s market it is not always possible for the public to obtain older vintages, yet we experience a constant demand from people wishing to buy wines aged five years and older,” says Thompson. “And this day is for them. During the Vintage Day we literally open up our cellars allowing visitors to taste and buy from our older stocks. This is a unique opportunity to experience wines that have been accorded the time to age under ideal conditions, many of which have become true gems over the passage of time.”
We will be open for Vintage Day from 13:00 to 19:00, tickets are R295 and include the tastings and some light snacks to keep the stomachs lined. Our signature restaurant Cuvée will also stay open for those wishing to stay later and enjoy the older vintages with dinner.
Tickets that include the Masterclass: Five Decades of Cabernet Sauvignon are R595 per person and will be held from 12h00 – please book in advance as space is limited.
