Tim Atkin Report 2018: Simonsig Medals of Excellence

We at Simonsig are proud to announce our awards results from this year’s much-anticipated Tim Atkin South Africa Special Report, now in its sixth year. This is one of the most thorough reports on the South African wine industry, and serves as a barometer of the state of the industry and the quality of its offerings.

“The South African wine scene has never been more vibrant or diverse. You all deserve enormous credit for that.” Tim Atkin

As more than 1 980 South African wines were tasted this year, we could not be more delighted that so many of our wines scored 90 points or more, and were awarded Medals of Excellence. As usual, our MCCs excelled, with the Cuvée Royale 2012 scoring 94 points out of a possible 100, and the Kaapse Vonkel Brut 2016 being awarded 90 points.

Simonsig red varietals also showed well, with the Merindol Syrah 2015 and the Redhill Pinotage 2016 scoring 92 and 90 respectively. The Grapesmith Mediteraneo 2016, as well as the Tiara 2014, one of our personal favourites, was rated an impressive 93 points.

Our 2017 Commemorative Steen scored 91 points, also showing very well for a white wine of this age.

We are happy that the quality of our wines was acknowledged by the Tim Atkin report, and we wish to congratulate our team on their hard work.

All these wines (except the Grapesmith Mediteraneo 2016) are available for purchase at our Tasting Room, online wine shop and selected retailers.
