Simonsig, a leading family-owned and managed South African winery, proudly announces that its Redhill Pinotage has been recognised by Wine Enthusiast as one of the top 100 wines of 2023. This prestigious accolade adds another layer of distinction to Redhill’s already stellar reputation as one of South Africa’s premier Pinotages.
The rigorous blind tasting process conducted by the Wine Enthusiast panel involved sampling over 23,000 wines from around the world in the past year. Simonsig’s Redhill Pinotage 2019 stood out among this elite selection, showcasing exceptional quality in its class.
“We are thrilled to receive this recognition from Wine Enthusiast, and it is a testament to the outstanding craftsmanship and quality of our Redhill Pinotage. We have walked a long road with Pinotage since its inaugural release as our first red wine in 1970, and it’s immensely gratifying to witness the fruits of our dedication.” said Michael Malan, third-generation cellarmaster at Simonsig. “Being one of only three South African wineries featured in this prestigious list is an honour and reflects our commitment to producing top-quality wines.”
The 2019 vintage of Simonsig’s Redhill Pinotage was awarded an impressive 92 points by Wine Enthusiast. The review highlights the wine’s well-structured nature, depth, and balanced acidity. “The nose is aromatic, offering leather, spices and raspberries followed by notes of smoke. A firm structure holds the palate. Tart cherry, plum, hints of paprika, black pepper, cinnamon and smoke lead to a flavorful finish.” The wine is recommended for enjoyment from now through 2031 and has earned the distinction of being an Editors’ Choice.
Simonsig is honoured to share this recognition with fellow South African producers, Bruwer Raats and Chris Alheit, further solidifying the country’s position as a producer of world-class wines.
