If there is one wine that can be said to be a holiday in a bottle, it has to be Cap Classique. Which is why we are offering 5% off on all Kaapse Vonkel orders via our online shop. We also reflect back on the Franschhoek Magic of Bubbles festival and prepare for yet another popular First Fizzday in January.
Enjoying the Magic of Bubbles at the Franschhoek Cap Classique Festival
Simonsig is the wine farm that brought Cap Classique to South Africa, the first bottle having been made on our Stellenbosch Estate in 1971. Today a lot of sparkling wine has flowed under the bridge. The bottle-fermented bubbly style our forefather Frans Malan crafted, is now one of South Africa’s most popular wine categories. South Africans consume close on four million bottles of Cap Classique a year, and 2,5m are exported beyond our borders.
The popularity of Simonsig was underscored at the recent Franschhoek Cap Classique and Champagne Festival where we joined a number of producers in offering our sparkling wines to thousands of wine lovers. It was a great day out, and really rewarding to hear so many of the visitors to our stand acknowledge Kaapse Vonkel as “The Original Cap Classique”.
First Fizzday returns a week later in January
On the first Thursday of every summer month we open our farm to the public for a sunset-celebration of Cap Classique with live music and an array of delectable foods. This has turned into something of an instution in the winelands and it is amazing to see the number of regulars who return every month saying this is now a standard date in their calendar.
Please take note: Because of it being that time of the year, January’s event will take place on the 12th of January – the second Thursday in the month.
